2. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER RH

Use the same procedure for both sides.

4. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY RH

HINT:

Use the same procedure for both sides.

6. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY RH

HINT:

Use the same procedure for both sides.

8. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING RH

HINT:

Use the same procedure for both sides.

11. INSTALL REAR DISC RH

HINT:

Use the same procedure for both sides.

12. INSTALL NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

(a) Attach the inner cable end to the carrier assembly and tighten the bolt to the specified torque. The inner cable end will be in position A.

(b) Push the inner cable from the opposite end. The inner cable end that is inside the brake assembly will move inbound as shown in B. From there, it will follow the lever shape and push open the guide spring, as shown in C. Finally, after the inner cable end moves in enough, the guide spring will force the cable end to seat in the final operation location, as shown in D.

(c) After connecting the inner cable end to the brake assembly, push and pull the opposite end of the inner cable 2 or 3 times to confirm that the inner cable end and brake assembly are securely connected.

(d) Install the No. 3 parking brake cable to the rear axle carrier with the bolt. Torque: 8.0 N·m (82 kgf·cm, 71 in·lbf)

(e) Install the No. 3 parking brake cable to the frame with the 4 bolts.

Torque: 19 N·m (194 kgf·cm, 14 ft·lbf)

NOTICE:

Do not bend and twist the parking brake cable.

(f) Apply MP grease to the areas where the cable contact the intermediate lever.

(g) Connect the No. 3 parking brake cable to the intermediate lever.

13. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

HINT:

The No. 2 parking brake cable bolt locations are symmetric to those of the No. 3 parking brake cable, with the exception of the locations indicated with *A.

(a) Install the No. 2 parking brake cable to the rear axle carrier with the bolt.

Torque: 8.0 N·m (82 kgf·cm, 71 in·lbf)

(b) Install the No. 2 parking brake cable to the frame with the 8 bolts.

Torque: 19 N·m (194 kgf·cm, 14 ft·lbf)

(c) Connect the No. 2 parking brake cable to the intermediate lever.

14. INSTALL NO. 2 CABLE RETAINER

(a) Install the retainer with the bolt. Torque: 13 N·m (128 kgf·cm, 9 ft·lbf)

15. INSTALL INTERMEDIATE LEVER TENSION SPRING

(a) Install the tension spring.

18. CONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY RH

HINT:

Use the same procedure for both sides.

20. INSTALL REAR WHEEL RH

HINT:

Use the same procedure for both sides.

22. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

(a) Install the No. 1 parking brake cable to the inside of the vehicle with the 2 bolts (labeled A).

Torque: 5.4 N·m (55 kgf·cm, 48 in·lbf)

(b) Connect the clamp (labeled B) to the No. 1 parking brake cable.

(c) Install the clamp with the nut (labeled C).

Torque: 5.4 N·m (55 kgf·cm, 48 in·lbf)

(d) Install the No. 1 parking brake cable and cable retainer with the bolt (labeled D).

Torque: 13 N·m (128 kgf·cm, 9 ft·lbf)

(e) Temporarily install the adjustment nut and lock nut (labeled E).

NOTICE:

Do not bend and twist the parking brake cable.

HINT:

The nuts will be tightened to a torque specification in the "Adjust Parking Brake Pedal Travel" procedure.

35. INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
